Today, one of Canon‘s Japanese departments announced that it has developed an APS-H-Size CMOS sensor that incorporates approximately 250 million pixels. Measuring roughly 29.2 x 20.2 mm, the latest Canon CMOS sensor contains the world’s highest amount of pixels for a product smaller than that of its 35 mm full-frame counterpart. The sensor is so powerful that when attached to a camera, it is capable of capturing images that can distinguish the lettering on the side of an airplane approximately 18 km from the tested shooting location. The device features advancements such as circuit miniaturization and enhanced signal-processing technology that can achieve a signal readout speed of 1.25 billion pixels per second.
