'80s Computer Maker Commodore Returns With an Android Smartphone
Nostalgia-fueled smartphones are coming back.

Often thought of as a relic of 30 years past, when the height of its popularity saw as many as 17 million of its Commodore 64 home computers shipped, Commodore has attempted several times since its bankruptcy in 1994 to return to the tech scene under various ownership. Its latest attempt is the PET, an otherwise average-seeming Android smartphone. Sporting a 5.5-inch IPS 1920×1080 resolution display made of Gorilla Glass 3, the phone is powered by a 1.7 GHz Mediatek 64-bit octa-core processor with ARM Mali T760 GPU and a 3000 mAH battery. Other features include a 13 MP Sony camera with a f/2.0 aperture, an 8 MP front-facing camera, and dual-SIM 4G connectivity. A special touch are the bundled emulators that will allow users to play classic Commodore 64 games of yore. The Commodore PET will be available in 16GB and 32GB versions when it launches in Europe in the coming weeks.
