Dries Van Noten’s latest centers on recreating the dazzle and exuberance of Hollywood by incorporating an array of colorful, eye-catching prints, none louder than the staple graphic of the iconic Marilyn Monroe. Tops, outerwear and bottoms alike flaunt images of the legendary Hollywood sweetheart, and shirts have been embroidered with a colored pair of pouting lips, representing a metaphoric level of themed integration. Cheetah print pieces, coupled with red sequin textures further enhance the rather animated collection, especially when paired with the monochrome tones of high-waisted, oversized black trousers or layered coats and blazers. Although the line certainly goes over the top from a visual standpoint, Van Noten’s rooted elements of prim tailoring are as clearly visible. Fitted blazers and matching shorts, and a draped, buttoned grey coat feature aspects of the underlying theme, yet when analyzed separately, can be also be appreciated for their delicate construction.
