Flume has been absent in 2015 so far. The only recent headlines the electronic artist has made involved his departure from What So Not, a collaborative project with Emoh Instead. However, Flume dropped a new remix today, and will hopefully continue to drop more dance-approved bangers as spring finally begins to settle in.
The remix is of Sam Smith‘s “Lay Me Down,” originally the singer’s debut single and lead single from his now well-known album, In the Lonely Hour (the track was re-released as the sixth single from the record). As the Disclosure brothers have taught us, Smith’s voice pairs well with some melodic synths and infectious drum patterns, and Flume totally takes that route with this remix.
The track begins with some distortion and warbled synthesizers, before booming with crashing cymbals and echoed snare hits. By the end the song has taken on a new life, Smith’s vocals chopped and served between spacious percussion and moody, R&B-tinged melodies. In other words, perfect for the dance floor but still melancholy enough to make you miss your ex.
