Facebook Debuts Dedicated Messenger Website

Facebook has dedicated significant development resources to its Messenger platform over the past few years, and today added yet another feature in the form of a dedicated web chat interface. While you can still send messages from within Facebook.com, Messenger.com gives the option to chat with friends without all the other social content of its main site. For now the functionality is bare bones — for example, you cannot send audio messages or photos from web cam — but just as splitting Messenger from Facebook’s app on mobile has given the company more room to add additional features and functionality, so could be the case on desktop. The service is currently available worldwide for English users, with support for more languages planned in the coming months.
