On April 25 renowned skateboarder, artist, graphic designer and photographer Ed Templeton opened the doors to his latest solo exhibition entitled “Synthetic Suburbia.” Having lived much of his life as a professional skateboarder and founder of Toy Machine, Ed’s work has steadily transitioned into the world of influential contemporary art whilst retaining the very distinct “Ed Templeton aesthetic” he has become so well known for. Despite having very little formal art education, Ed’s latest exhibition is somewhat more mature and considered with the progression from his Toy Machine and New Deal days being made clear. Designed to be a retrospective and present look at where he lives in Huntington Beach, California, the show is composed of acrylic pieces with women remaining the focal point — something all too familiar for those following Ed on Instagram. If you would like to discover why “there is no place as strange as Huntington Beach,” “Synthetic Suburbia” will be on show from now through until May 30 at the Roberts & Tilton Gallery in Culver City.
