Your observation is not incorrect; it has been revealed that the album had been pressed to the same black polycarbonate discs as the ones used for the first generation of Sony PlayStation all the way back in 1994. Manson’s team sourced the material directly from Sony, which used the same original plant to create the discs. The difference? The discs are thicker, more durable and more robust than regular CDs. When spun, the black discs would turn white due to an added thermal texture, which is supposedly said to reflect the album’s themes of light and darkness.
