Amy Winehouse's Family Will "Disassociate Themselves" With Upcoming Documentary Film

On July 3, 2015, Amy, the Asif Kapaida-directed documentary film about the life of Amy Winehouse, will arrive in British theaters. A truly loved and admired musical talent, Winehouse tragically passed away from alcohol poisoning in 2011. The film is two hours of both unseen and familiar footage of the singer; however, its structure and content is now coming under fire from the star’s family, whose spokesperson has stated: “They would like to disassociate themselves from the forthcoming film about their much missed and beloved Amy…They feel that the film is a missed opportunity to celebrate her life and talent and that it is both misleading and contains some basic untruths…There are specific allegations made against family and management that are unfounded and unbalanced.”

Having begun the film process with the backing of the Winehouse family, the filmmakers claim that they “approached the project with total objectivity, as with Senna.” After conducting over 100 interviews with those who had known Amy personally, the film team made what they believed to be an accurate portrayal of the young singer’s life.
