After announcing the collaboration back in February, NikeLab has unveiled its upcoming seasonal collection alongside designer Chitose Abe and her label sacai. Renowned for her disruptive aesthetic, Abe’s penchant for technology and innovation is emphasized with the resulting eight-piece collection — a reinterpretation of Nike‘s heritage sportswear silhouettes through a feminine and modern lens. Pulling references from running, tennis and American football, the range re-imagines NSW’s popular Tech Fleece, utilizing two different versions of the fabric along the likes of a crewneck sweatshirt, hoodie, crewneck top, knee-length dress, and sweatpants while adding bonded zippers and specially-designed mesh lace into the mix. The range even includes a special take on the ubiquitous Windrunner, reinterpreting the staple as a skirt featuring plissé-style pleating with an emphasis on fluidity. Said Abe of the collab:
The idea of functionality is important to me, as is fabric innovation, which has always been at the heart of sacai. For me, Nike is an original icon with performance and innovation at its core. It has been inspiring to work together.
Comprised of the Tech Fleece crew, Tech Fleece hooded sweatshirt with zip, Windrunner jacket, Sport Skirt, Graphic tee, Tech Fleece dress, Tech Fleece crew top with back zip, and Tech Fleece pant — not to mention a trio of slip-on Air Max 90s — this spring’s sacai x NikeLab collection will be available beginning March 19 at nike.com/nikelab, Dover Street Market, colette and NikeLab doors in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Hong Kong and Shanghai before hitting Japan March 25. Following the release, a summer range will debut this June with new colorways and additions to the collection, including a graphic tank and yet-to-be-seen NikeLab Dunk Lux.
