Karl Lagerfeld Brings Paris to Rome for Chanel's 2016 Fall/Winter Preview
A darkly atmospheric rendition of the designer’s adopted home perfectly showcases the collection’s sleazy edge.
Hosted in tandem with Chanel’s Métiers d’Art extravaganza in Rome, the brand welcomed fashion’s elite to the city’s renowned Cinecettà studios where the iconic atelier showed its 2016 fall/winter preview. Known for its transformative runway presentations, many spectators were pleasantly surprised to see that Karl Lagerfeld had transformed the film stage into a dark, atmospheric rendition of his adopted home of Paris. As models emerged from the “Metro” station, the spirit of Brigitte Bardot was ever present as models were styled in racy laced tights, leather trenches and as described by DAZED, “an almost raunchy incarnation of Chanel suits worked into dresses.” As a modern departure from the refined traditions of Chanel, Lagerfeld’s latest interpretation is tinged with a sleazy edge that unexpectedly remains true to the fashion houses’s ethos.
