DonMonique Releases Video for "Drown"
One of NYC’s fastest-rising talents.
Brooklyn’s DonMonique has been earning herself a great deal of attention and acclaim this year due to her cutthroat, aggressive technique as a lyricist and infectious cuts like “Pilates.” If you look at the entire class of NYC up-and-comers, DonMonique definitely stands out as a firebrand, militant lyricist who’s indebted to all eras and schools of her city’s rap. With the songs featured on her Thirst Trap EP still fresh and in rotation, DonMonique is supporting the project with a new video for one of the project’s selections, “Drown.” Breaking down the song and its video, DonMonique shared the following with FADER:
“All I knew was my project needed a weed song, something to drown out all of the hardcore super New York-y tracks on it…. I wanted the video to be just as chill as the song is…so I grabbed Hidji and my friend Rebecca and we shot around the city in the middle of the night and got high.”
Sounds like a good time was had by all. Check out the video above.
