Eerily reminiscent of Frankenstein, the models at Yohji Yamamoto‘s 2015 fall/winter runway showing walked with scars across their faces and white streaks in their hair. “After surgery,” the designer said backstage, but what exactly was Yamamoto cutting up? The designer took a knife to his own legacy, revisiting some of his most well-known and cherished themes. For example, multiple lapels, deconstruction, unfinished seams and patchwork were all present here, with outfits often looking undone. Multiple materials and fabrics were sewn together to create coats and mismatched sweaters. Yamamoto’s signature black jackets were reinvented and reintroduced. The loose-fitting outfits feature his usual drapery and varying textures. The avant-garde designer also unveiled his new jewelry line, by simply wearing them while taking his bow — a way only Yamamoto would.
