The live taping of the 2015 BET Honors awards took place last night where Kanye West received the year’s Visionary Award. Co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records Dame Dash, who is known to have had disputes with the rapper, was chosen to introduce the awardee. He comments on that in his introduction, claiming that his “history with Kanye is [he] didn’t respect [Kanye] as a rapper because [he] was around the greatest rappers – but [Kanye] has courage.” Kanye’s speech apparently included many quotables, including “You can’t be the kid in the back of the classroom with black nail polish. You have to smack the sh*t out of people with your creativity.” He also had a chance to describe his wife Kim Kardashian’s dating preferences during his moment, saying, “They say white girls go out and get a rich black dude. But my wife dated broke black dudes. So it’s not about the money.” Check the clip here and look out for the entire show — which also features Kendrick Lamar and JAY Z — when it airs on February 23.
