Extra Butter has cooked up a new collaboration with Reebok, creating a sneaker that pays homage to one of New York’s finest institutions: the almighty halal cart. Much like the city’s historic subway, halal carts transcend social and economic barriers, acting as a common ground for all New York residents. And for New York-based Extra Butter, it was the perfect symbol for its custom sneaker, the “Street Meat” Reebok Ventilator. For the “Street Meat,” Extra Butter employed a cuisine-inspired color palette, with a light tan and grey upper evoking images of grilled lamb and chicken, splashes of white for yogurt, and subtle use of pink at the toe to add a touch of hot sauce. Extra Butter doesn’t take collaborations lightly, uncontent with simply choosing colors for custom sneakers. The boutique likes to dig deeper, finding an insight and creating a product that tells a story. With the “Street Meat,” that story is one which every New Yorker can relate to. Look for it to drop at Extra Butter soon and stay tuned for an in-depth look at the collab ahead of its release.
