visvim “Study and Practice” Retrospect Exhibition @ F.I.L. Wan Chai Store

Since its inception back in 2000, visvim has been known to draw inspiration from the past, taking utilitarian heritage garbs and blending them with contemporary design and technical materials. visvim’s Founder and Creative Director Hiroki Nakamura began his fascination with fashion at the tender age of 14, collecting turn-of-the-century American workwear and traditional noragi uniforms of Japan’s blue-collar working class. Having amassed a museum-like stockpile, Nakamura brings together his own extensive personal collection and interprets them against the visvim line, creating his first retrospective exhibition. In an effort to supplement the forthcoming exhibit, the Japanese visionary produced a range of specially-conceived items for this current seasonal range exploring traditional Japanese heritage to create contemporary garments, as seen in the one-wash noragi made with Okayama denim. With successful showings in Tokyo and London earlier this year, Nakamura brings his “Study and Practice” Retrospect Exhibition to his F.I.L. Wan Chai Store in Hong Kong starting July 21 and running until August 3.
