This Is the Last Land Rover Defender
Number 2,016,933.

After it was first reported back in 2013, Land Rover has officially ceased production of the beloved Defender after 68 years. Land Rover Defender number 2,016,933 — a decidedly retro 90 Heritage Soft Top — rolled off the line at the manufacturer’s Solihull factory in England today, marking the end of the beloved off-roader as we know it.
So what’s next for the vehicle? Thankfully, a new take on the Defender was confirmed last year and is in the works ahead of a promised return to the United States — just in time for Land Rover’s 70th anniversary celebration. The new vehicle will reportedly entail a complete overhaul and include a variety of permutations, as well as both 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmissions.
Currently, the new Defender is on track for a 2018 debut.
