Creative Agency Designs Entire Typeface Around Kobe Bryant's Logo
Reverse engineering a logo into a typeface is no small feat.

The logo for Kobe Bryant’s line of signature basketball sneakers is a branding triumph for Nike: simple, instantly recognizable and immediately impactful, the logo ticks all the boxes in terms of design. It is no surprise, therefore, that Nike has commissioned two-man creative studio Sawdust to design a bespoke typeface taking the logo as inspiration. Having previously worked with the likes of Coca-Cola and The New York Times, Jonathan Quainton and Rob Gonzalez of Sawdust were not fazed by the prospect of taking on such a project. Speaking on the design, Gonzalez says that “the design was inspired by the star-like negative space that is created in the central point of the logo mark. It creates movement and energy, which is something we tried to capture in the type design.” Check out more from Sawdust here.
