Mother-daughter relationships can be notoriously challenging, especially when a booming business is involved. But at Wooyoungmi, it seems to work out perfectly. Katie Chung was born into the business and finally joined last year, now working with her mom, Woo Young Mi, as joint creative directors. Their different tastes have resulted in a subtle but palpable change in the direction for the brand, Chung’s style is softer, whereas Woo’s is hard and brash, amalgamating into a shared idea of nonchalant elegance, spawning a collection full of urban, elongated silhouettes crafted from intense textures. Wooyoungmi’s emphasis on innovative fabrics was evident, with a strong showing of felt making up much of the loose coats, droopy pants and unstructured blazers.
