Chitose Abe is a Japanese fashion designer, founder and creative director of Sacai. Abe began her fashion career as a pattern cutter at COMME des GARÇONS, working under Rei Kawakubo. She was later a part of Junya Watanabe’s design team. In 1998, she founded sacai, featuring her sporty and urban aesthetic while retaining delicate sensibilities. Abe owns 100 percent of her business, allowing her complete creative control. In its second season overseas, the brand amassed 15 clients. The brand has flourished since she began showing in Paris fashion week in 2008, and is now sold in over 90 stockists worldwide.
