Well into his 70s, the legendary designer and his eponymous label continues to contribute to the fashion world. One of the few Japanese designers in the ‘80s to leave a mark during Paris Fashion Week (others being the likes of Issey Miyake and Rei Kawakubo), Yohji Yamamoto has been staying true to his dark aesthetic and avant-garde tailoring for over 35 years, all the while widening his audience via collaborations, sub-labels, and experimentation outside of fashion. On top of his main line, Yohji Yamamoto splits his time with his ongoing partnership with adidas (Y-3 & YY), New Era, and sub-labels Y’s and S’YTE. This year’s biggest releases include the main line’s FW19 collection, S’YTE’s collaboration with Junji Ito, and his designing of the All Blacks team jerseys for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
