It’s never a tedious year for Yohji Yamamoto, who is a relentless purveyor of innovation in the world of fashion. For 2016, the seasoned Japanese master has offered a handsome gamut of collections for his eponymous label and adidas Y-3. In January, the designer presented a slew of oversized knits for his namesake brand that takes design cues from asylum seekers — more specifically, the struggle of migrants and refugees from Syria. Fast forward to June: the mustachioed doyen offered a black- and blue- swathed range for 2017 spring/summer that touted long draping coats, baggy coats and more. For Y-3, Yamamoto fans reacted with shock and awe when the sub-line released its first ever apparel collection for space travel in collaboration with Virgin Galactic, sportswear, and a myriad of crisp takes on highly-favored footwear silhouettes such as the Qasa, Retro Boost and QR Run to name a few.
