This year marked many firsts for renowned American pop artist and designer KAWS. The New Jersey native kicked off 2016 with his first UK museum exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park that featured a 10-meter-tall sculpture dubbed SMALL LIE. A couple of months later, the artist had his first solo show in South Korea’s Galerie Perrotin that spotlighted a life-size sculpture of the Companion and a series of abstract paintings inspired by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Ellsworth Kelly. Not to mention, KAWS made admirers’ jaws drop when he introduced the towering BFF sculpture at Central Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. Segueing into fashion, the artist once again teamed up with NIGO on an exclusive collaboration for Uniqlo UT. He also partnered up with Mira Mikati to drop a trio of limited edition bombers and Nancy Gonzalez for a sleek monochromatic bag collection. Not too long ago, KAWS debuted his forthcoming book titled WHERE THE END STARTS with an exhibition to follow at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in Texas this coming October. The book is a followup to his 2010 Rizzoli-published tome called WHERE THE END STARTS.
