Summary

YOSHIROTTEN presents Transmissions with the Beyond at TOKYO NODE, opening October 30, 2026.

The show features JAXA-collaborative space art translating astrophysical data into light and sound.

Rooftop activations include a Pokémon TCG 30th-anniversary park and cosmic installations.

YOSHIROTTEN is extending his long-running investigation into the unseen beyond Earth with Transmissions with the Beyond, his first large-scale solo exhibition in Tokyo in eight years. Running at TOKYO NODE from October 30, 2026 through January 11, 2027, the exhibition fills approximately 1,500 square meters with the artist’s largest presentation to date of his three principal series – RGB, FUTURE NATURE and SUN – alongside an entirely new body of “space art.”

Across a career spanning roughly two decades, YOSHIROTTEN has moved fluidly between fine art, graphic design, music, fashion and spatial design, developing a visual language around what he calls the “Visualization of Things Invisible.” Here, that recurring interest in light, color and nature shifts outward, using the vantage point of TOKYO NODE, around 200 meters above the city, as a departure point for thinking about the cosmos.

At the center of the exhibition is a collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), translating scientific observation into immersive visual experiences. Developed through conversations with Hiroya Yamaguchi of JAXA’s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Puddle Cygnus X-1 transforms observation data from the XRISM mission’s investigation of a black hole into painting and moving image, while “Light Pulse” converts all-sky data captured from the International Space Station into an enveloping installation of light and sound.

New works including “Supernova” visualize the explosive life cycle of a star, while Halo renders stellar orbits in sculptural form. The exhibition also brings physical artifacts from Japan’s space program into the gallery, including the solar sail spacecraft IKAROS and the control console used to guide Ohsumi, Japan’s first artificial satellite, into orbit in 1970.

Rather than remaining contained within the gallery, Transmissions with the Beyond expands across Toranomon Hills through music, publishing, public art and a Pokémon Trading Card Game collaboration. The rooftop SKY GARDEN & POOL hosts Pokémon Trading Card Game & YOSHIROTTEN Park, building on the artist’s graphics for the game’s 30th anniversary and featuring imagery of Mew, Mewtwo and Pikachu, before transforming after dark into the free BEYOND EARTH GARDEN video installation.

Elsewhere, YOSHIROTTEN’s relationship with music feeds into a limited-edition BEYOND EARTH compilation LP, a 100-piece orange km5 Cp2 CD player, a temporary MUSIC BAR UCHU and an accompanying J-WAVE radio program. Together, the projects position the exhibition less as a conventional retrospective than as a multisensory ecosystem where art, science, sound and urban culture intersect, carrying YOSHIROTTEN’s exploration of the invisible from Tokyo toward the scale of outer space.
