LEGO has revealed the Batman Returns Batmobile & Duck, a 672-piece set that pits the Caped Crusader’s armored ride against The Penguin’s oversized waterfowl. Built for ages 9 and up, the set leans on movie-accurate details and moving parts, giving fans a pair of vehicles that work as well on a display shelf as they do in a staged chase.
The Batmobile is the more technical of the two builds. Its standout feature is a transformation into the Batmissile, the stripped-down configuration that lets the car squeeze through narrow passages in Gotham City, a direct nod to one of the film’s most memorable sequences. A cockpit sized for the Batman minifigure lets him slot in behind the wheel, and the finished car stretches more than 7.5 in. (20 cm) long and stands over 2 in. (5 cm) tall.
The Duck takes a more playful approach. Wing doors swing open so The Penguin can climb inside, while both the wings and the head are posable, letting builders adjust the vehicle’s expression and stance for display. The compact model measures over 4 in. (11 cm) tall and 4.5 in. (11 cm) long, and The Penguin minifigure can stand beside it with umbrella in hand when he’s not behind the controls. Together, the two vehicles set up a ready-made face-off between hero and villain.
The source material gives the set its pull. Directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton opposite Danny DeVito’s grotesque take on The Penguin, Batman Returns has grown into a cult favorite for its gothic, holiday-season atmosphere. Its Batmobile, with the sleek, jet-inspired silhouette carried over from Burton’s 1989 film, remains one of the most celebrated designs in the character’s history. Pairing it with The Penguin’s absurd duck vehicle captures the film’s mix of menace and dark comedy in brick form.
