Video Essentials With Bubba Watson Featuring the Special Edition 2022 Richard Mille RM 38-02 Tourbillon
The two-time Masters champion and LIV Golf captain of RangeGoats GC shares a look at the items that serve as a daily reminder of his legacy.
When Gerry Lester Watson Jr. – known to most as Bubba Watson – claimed his first Major in 2012, it became one of the most pivotal moments in his professional golf career, initiating a run of stand-out wins in the Masters, World Golf Championships and more.
Milestones like these are what the esteemed golfer and LIV Golf team captain has come to cherish alongside his collection of prizes, trinkets and memorabilia. In the latest episode of Essentials, Watson opens the trophy cabinet to give Hypebeast an exclusive look at the items he’s accumulated over the years, not forgetting the pieces from his golden year of golf.
“They’re like paper weights but they’re cool pieces to remind me of all the hard work and dedication,” shares Watson, juggling two solid gold replicas of his PING golf clubs that the brand gives for Major titles. As well as commemorating his wins at the Masters with etchings of the landmark dates, these valuables have come to represent another feat, specifically for left-handed golfers. “In the ‘80s left-handed clubs were hard to come by but luckily a head pro gave me his nine iron when I was starting out,” he says. “Now PING makes some incredible equipment for all.”
If solid gold clubs weren’t flashy enough, the golfer adds to his Essentials with the 2022 RM 38-02 Manual Winding Tourbillon Bubba Watson watch wrapped in his signature pink tone. “I never dreamed of having a watch with my name on it,” he says. Recounting the day he was presented with the prototype of his second Richard Mille watch, Watson shares, “When I went on to win the Masters, Richard Mille made a Champions Edition in 2014, which led to me winning the 2014 Augusta Championship.” With a smirk, he jokingly adds, “We figured out that I have to get new watches to make me win.”
Today, Watson arrives at golf courses around the world equipped with his Richard Mille watch, a pocket full of tees, and his custom PING G440 Max – a lucky combination that he admits he can’t play without. “All I want to do is play golf with friends. I love golf so much that I just care about creating shots,” he explains.
On the odd occasion, he hits up country clubs with his wife, but most recently he has been joined by his RangeGoats GC teammates in the LIV Golf league. “LIV is doing something different. It’s a global league creating a team atmosphere, of which the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup set the foundation for,” he shares. “Now, with teams going around the world, you’re seeing an evolution in terms of how we show the sport, how we represent the sport and how we grow the sport.”
Aside from his love of golf, Watson has also taken a liking to basketball, as his fifth and final item would suggest. “I went to Game 3 and they were selling a collector’s pair of Nike LeBron Soldier 11 worn by LeBron James,” he says. “When I see it, it’s a reminder that I can do more, and be more than my sport.”
