JFK Officially Opens Jet Age-Inspired TWA Hotel

After setting the stage for Louis Vuitton’s Resort 2020 show and opening an on-site lifestyle shop last week, the much-anticipated TWA Hotel has officially opened its doors at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. Thousands of people swarmed the accommodation today to witness the ribbon-cutting celebration — and even a surprise flash mob — that took place in the now-restored Trans World Airlines terminal, a city landmark that was originally erected in 1962.

The entire project, including the refurbished terminal and the hotel, took more than 22 government agencies and 170 architecture and design firms to construct. Major highlights include the 50,000-square-foot events center, the Paris Café by world-renowned chef Jean-Georges and the world’s largest hotel gym, standing at 10,000 square feet. The sprawling new hotel “wings” house 512 soundproof guest rooms that come complete with retro interior furnishings, maintaining the Jet Age influence featured throughout the venue.

Other key attractions include a Shinola custom watch bar and leather goods store, a Warby Parker Pencil Room and a reading room that boasts midcentury modern furniture designed by Herman Miller. Guests can also peruse exhibitions themed around TWA and Jet Age history, or take a dip in the rooftop pool at their leisure.
