Larry June has found his latest muse in Pierre Paulin. The San Francisco artist stars in “Keep Tryin’,” the first music video from Sounds Like Paulin, a cultural initiative founded by Benjamin and Alice Paulin that brings the late French designer’s universe into conversation with music and contemporary culture.
The relationship began in 2024, when June encountered Paulin’s work during a trip to Paris. He later acquired a Dune Ensemble for his Bay Area home, which went on to inspire his track “Imported Couches.” For “Keep Tryin’,” that connection takes on a new form through Paulin’s 1967 Tongue chair.
Reworked in June’s signature fluorescent orange with contrasting green stitching and detailing, the chair was created specifically for the project and marks the debut of DroPPP, a new series of special-edition Paulin pieces developed in collaboration with artists from the Sounds Like Paulin universe featuring photography by Julien Boudet.
Rather than simply serving as a backdrop, the Tongue becomes part of the visual language of “Keep Tryin’,” bringing June’s laid-back West Coast world into dialogue with one of Paulin’s most recognizable designs.
The video and inaugural DroPPP edition debut today, alongside a dedicated installation at Cahiers d’Art in Paris.
