Echoes of Tomorrowland Set Out to Connect Communities on the Dancefloor
Taking music and self-expression beyond borders with a real-time livestream of the festival.
As Tomorrowland kicked off last weekend, Velo held an event several hundred miles away in Ibiza that aimed to bring the spirit of the festival to dance music fans on the island.
Honing in on one of the main cornerstones of the festival, the inaugural edition of Echoes of Tomorrowland invited attendees to forge authentic connections by giving them space to express their true selves on the dancefloor. Taking place at the Tomorrowland Store, Velo used a livestream from the festival’s main stage to connect both spaces, creating an “Echo” of the festival. As scenes of the crowds, sets, and vibrant atmosphere played out across the venue, Ukrainian house and techno DJ Korolova performed live over the visuals to create a layered experience that let fans in Ibiza tap into Tomorrowland’s energy in real time.
“The dancefloor is one of the few places where people feel completely free to express who they are without judgment,” shared global DJ Korolova, after headlining the Echoes of Tomorrowland event. “That’s the energy I felt throughout the night in Ibiza, thanks to Velo. It was incredible to watch everyone let go, show up as their true selves, and celebrate their originality together.”
In an effort to supercharge the sense of community, Velo introduced a “butterfly matching mechanic,” which gave guests a necklace with a half-butterfly charm and challenged them to find a stranger holding the other half to complete the butterfly. This interactive social experiment instantly turned a room of strangers into an collaborative community.
Supporting artist Camden Cox added, “What stayed with me from the night was watching total strangers connect so easily through a shared experience. Sometimes all people need is a small invitation to start a conversation. Seeing the crowd use the physical butterflies to break the ice and dance together was pure magic.”
Reflecting on the event, Global Head of Content & Partnerships at BAT, Malky Brown, commented, “With Echoes of Tomorrowland, we wanted to recreate the sense of connection that makes the festival so special. By encouraging people to step outside their comfort zones and connect with others, we brought to life Velo’s belief that self-expression can bring people closer together.”
