Paulin, Paulin, Paulin has partnered with Hauser & Wirth to unveil Mise-en-scène, a dynamic presentation opening this month at the gallery’s Monaco location. Dedicated to preserving and evolving the legacy of legendary designer Pierre Paulin, the Paris-based studio has transformed the gallery into an immersive environment where iconic design objects serve as the staging ground for curated artworks by modern and contemporary masters.
The presentation creates a unique dialogue between furniture and fine art, featuring a roster of artists that includes Pablo Picasso, Louise Bourgeois, Jean Arp, Lucio Fontana, and Andy Warhol. Contemporary contributions from Rashid Johnson, Henry Taylor, and Paul McCarthy further activate the space, which is designed to function as a living “mise-en-scène.” The environment focuses on the intersection of form and function, placing Paulin’s sculptural seating and interior objects in direct conversation with 20th and 21st-century masterpieces.
In addition to the visual exhibition, the residency introduces “Sounds Like Paulin,” a cultural initiative and record label founded by Benjamin and Alice Paulin. This musical extension treats sound as a collaborative space, hosting a series of seasonal activations. The program officially launches on April 9 with a performance by The Cristalist, coinciding with the opening reception and the first of several scheduled open viewing sessions. The exhibition will remain accessible via appointment throughout the summer, offering a revolving sensory experience in the heart of Monte Carlo.
