  • The upcoming music biopic will be written by Cody Brotter with Kevin J. Walsh and Gotham Chopra serving as producers
  • A director and cast have yet to be announced for the project which will explore the legacy of the group formed in 1983

Universal is officially developing a Bon Jovi biopic after winning a bidding war for the highly anticipated feature film. Adding to the recent wave of music-centric cinematic releases, the upcoming project will bring the legendary rock band’s storied history to the big screen.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the film is set to be written by Cody Brotter, recognized for his work on the upcoming crypto thriller Killing Satoshi. At the time of writing, it is unclear whether the narrative will focus on a singular formative event in the band’s timeline or take a more expansive, career-spanning approach. Furthermore, a director has not yet been attached to the project, and casting for the group’s key members — including frontman Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, guitarists John Shanks and Phil X, percussionist Everett Bradley, and bassist Hugh McDonald — is still pending.

The production side of the film is already taking shape, with Kevin J. Walsh and Gotham Chopra of Religion of Sports tapped as producers. Universal’s director of production development, Jacqueline Garell, will oversee the project for the studio as they look to capitalize on the continued popularity of music biopics at the box office.
