Universal Pictures has dated the Snoop Dogg biopic Snoop for August 6, 2027

Jonathan Daviss of Outer Banks takes the title role, with Craig Brewer directing

The film marks the first project under Death Row Pictures' overall deal with NBCUniversal

Snoop Dogg is officially getting the big-screen treatment, and Snoop now has a date. Universal Pictures has set the biopic for August 6, 2027, slotting the story of the artist, mogul and gangsta rap icon into a prime summer window and stepping into a release slot previously held for an untitled Universal event film.

Jonathan Daviss, known for Netflix’s Outer Banks, will play the lead, stepping into the role of one of hip-hop’s most recognizable figures. Behind the camera, Craig Brewer directs from his own rewrite of a script originally drafted by Joe Robert Cole. Brewer brings real range to the job, with Hustle & Flow and the recent Song Sung Blue on his resume, and the film will weave in music pulled from Snoop’s deep catalogue.

The production carries serious backing. Snoop is the first project under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal, and the producing team includes Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, a veteran of 8 Mile, alongside Snoop Dogg himself and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. That lineup signals a film aiming for scale rather than a quick cash-in on a famous name.

Universal also knows this lane well. The studio’s biopic track record runs from Straight Outta Compton to 8 Mile, and it recently helped push the Michael Jackson film Michael past $1 billion USD worldwide. Dropping Snoop into that legacy sets a high bar, and the studio is clearly betting the West Coast legend’s story can clear it.

Snoop hits US theaters on August 6, 2027 via Universal Pictures. Stay tuned for an official trailer.
