The rumors are true: Pieter Mulier is Versace’s new Chief Creative Officer.

Announced jointly by Versace and Prada Group today, the appointment takes effect on July 1 and marks a major creative shift for the Italian fashion house.

Mulier — who recently left Alaïa — brings a quietly formidable résumé to the role. Over the past two decades, the Belgian designer has helped shape some of fashion’s most influential modern identities, with senior creative roles at brands including Raf Simons, Jil Sander, Dior and Calvin Klein. His tenure as Creative Director at Alaïa was defined by precise tailoring, sculptural silhouettes and a refined minimalism that earned critical acclaim and commercial momentum.

At Versace, Mulier steps into a house defined by maximalism, sex appeal and a distinctly Italian sense of glamour — a sharp contrast that makes the appointment all the more intriguing. His arrival hints at a potential recalibration of the brand’s visual language, balancing Versace’s heritage codes with a more architectural, modern sensibility.

The move also underscores Prada Group’s ongoing strategy of placing strong, design-led voices at the forefront of its portfolio. As the industry continues to navigate shifting tastes and market pressures, all eyes will be on how Mulier translates his cerebral approach into Versace’s world of high-octane fashion heritage.

More details are expected closer to his official start in the summer – stay tuned to Hypebeast.
