Apple and The King’s Trust Launch New Mentoring Program
Creative Labs provides young talent with opportunities to enter the creative industries through immersive workshops at Apple’s new music venue in London.
Apple and The King’s Trust are taking their partnership to the next level with the launch of their new educational program, Creative Labs.
Recognizing the direct impact of systemic disadvantages and educational exclusions on young people in the UK, Creative Labs addresses the power of accessibility in carving out a successful career. Building upon both of their long-standing commitments to nurturing young talent, the collaborative initiative is set to teach invaluable skills by enlisted experts, expand opportunities, and break down barriers to entry to creative industries.
As well as aligning their strengths to provide access to top industry connections through mentorship and training on the latest suite of Apple technology, the program will help members discover their passions, fuel creativity and transform ideas into practice.
“Allowing me to tap into younger versions of myself and help give a small nudge in a direction where they might not see themselves. For me, it’s a special opportunity, being a creative myself and throwing rocks at Goliath when I was trying to figure out my path in the industry,” Prophet Guillory, Apple Music’s head of Artist Services, Tools, and Community, tells Hypebeast. “Leaving the world a better place than when you found it is one of the first things somebody told me that you could do when you work at Apple. 11 years in the game, I’m here to tell you it’s true.”
The program kicked off this week at the newly opened Apple Music Hall in Battersea Power Station, where 20 young people joined Guillory to experience immersive workshops centered around music. From Logic Pro tutorials using iPads to learning about the various avenues there are to take in the industry, attendees met with surprise special guests King Charles, Tim Cook and Sir Elton John, as well as got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Sky Newman’s sound check and were front-row for an intimate performance by Nectar Woode.
Wanting to empower the next generation of creators to unlock their full potential, Creative Labs aims to be a growing hub for creativity and exploration. The inaugural program will be followed by more sessions that branch into other creative disciplines in the Apple ecosystem throughout the next year.
