“The Beatles had been my whole life, really,” said Paul McCartney in the first trailer for Man on the Run, setting a somber tone for a story about reinvention. When the Fab Four split in 1970, McCartney admits he thought he would “never write another note of music, ever,” spiraling into a period of deep depression. Directed by Morgan Neville, this upcoming documentary peels back the curtain on that vulnerable transition, exploring how the musician navigated the “emotional, artistic, and personal challenges” of defining a new identity in the shadow of one of the world’s biggest bands.
The film focuses on the formation of Wings in 1971, a pivot that saw McCartney team up with his wife Linda, alongside former Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine and drummer Denny Seiwell. Utilizing previously unseen footage and exclusive interviews, Man on the Run documents the band’s rise, which included seven studio albums and massive hits like Jet and the James Bond theme Live and Let Die. The project highlights the love between Paul and Linda, whom he credits as the force that pulled him back to the studio.
