As we move into late January 2026, the duo is set to reissue one of their most coveted archival masterpieces: the “JAPANORAK.” Originally a secondary-market legend, this piece serves as the ultimate bridge between Tokyo’s street style and American heritage.
The aesthetic of the JAPANORAK is a masterclass in stealth-utility. Draped in deep matte black, the jacket features premium leather hardware on the zippers and drawstring toggles, providing a luxury finish to the rugged silhouette. The interior reveals a vibrant royal blue lining, while the exterior is punctuated by the word “JAPAN” in bold all-caps across the front utility pocket, accompanied by the national flag.
The cultural gravity of this reissue was recently highlighted by barber, Daku Nishiyama (known as Dak). Beyond his work as a barber, he has designed under his own brand a set of JAPANORAKs, which included one that was famously worn by Ye — Dak is widely recognized as Ye’s long-time personal barber, a role that has kept him at the center of global street culture for years. Sharing his excitement on Instagram, Dak revealed that world-champion reggae and dancehall sound system from Yokohama, Mighty Crown is acting as the official ambassador for the project. He wrote on Instagram, “I had an opportunity to link with one of my all time hero’s… Mighty Crown playing a role as an ambassador for this very special project with Ralph Lauren & Beams Japan. The Japanorak retro exclusive pieces will be releasing at the end of the month. Bless up!!!”
