At long last, Young Thug is back. His first project since freedom and his fourth studio album in his sweeping discography, UY SCUTI, after a slight delay, has landed.
Thugger named the project aptly, after the biggest known star in the Universe – a red supergiant located 5,900 light-years away in the constellation Scutum – reframing his fall from grace as an ascension back to the top as he pens the landscape of the past year.
A time capsule of Thugger’s recent trials and tribulations, UY SCUTI is a post-mortem reflection of the rapper’s past 18 months. Expansive in composition and lyrical references and anecdotes, the project hears Thug’s otherworldly sonic capabilities thrive throughout the raw penmanship, shining especially on the solo tracks on the tracklist.
“Ninja” kicks off with a two-minute opening of the prosecution’s audio, followed by early features from Ken Carson on “Yuck” and Cardi B on “Catch Me I’m Falling.” he goes on a solo run for a bit before introducing new features from T.I, Mariah The Scientist, Lil Baby, Sexyy Red, YFN Lucci, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Lil Gotit and 1300SAINT.
It takes the rapper eight songs to make mention of Gunna, bringing in the “rat” references on “Sad Slime,” with Future feature “Money on Money” landing as track 19, and “Miss My Dogs” poginantly closing it out.
