Summary

  • Uses sEMG to read wrist muscle signals for device control
  • Trained on 300+ people for broad compatibility and personalization
  • Designed to work with Meta’s AR glasses and future AI-powered devices

Meta has unveiled a groundbreaking wearable device that could replace the traditional keyboard and mouse. Developed by Reality Labs, the new smart bracelet uses surface electromyography (sEMG) to detect tiny electrical signals from the wearer’s wrist muscles, enabling control of computers and devices through subtle hand and finger movements. The AI-powered wristband can interpret gestures like tapping, swiping, or even drawing letters in the air or on a surface — allowing users to type, open apps, or navigate menus without physical input tools.

Trained on data from over 300 participants, the system adapts to various hand shapes, skin types and motion styles and it becomes more accurate over time by learning each user’s habits. Meta says the bracelet operates quietly and noninvasively, offering privacy and accessibility for users in both public spaces and for those with physical disabilities. The device is designed to integrate with Meta’s augmented reality glasses and may eventually serve as a primary interface for computing.
