RM Sotheby’s is set to auction an ultra-rare Porsche 911: a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight, chassis 9113600446. The car is just one of 200 M471 “Lightweight” models and one of only 17 made in right-hand drive. Delivered new to gentleman racer Dan Margulies, the car competed in the 1973 Targa Florio, finishing 18th overall and 4th in class alongside co-driver Andrew Hedges.
After stints with notable Ulster rally figures including Reggie McSpadden and Esler Crawford, “0446” was raced extensively in Irish rallies through the late 1970s, winning the 1977 Ulster Rally outright. Following a meticulous restoration by Francis Tuthill in the 1990s, the car remained in long-term private hands, clocking fewer than 52,300 miles to date.
The car wears its original Comstock Racing livery and registration, and comes with exceptional documentation, including the original AFN invoice, race entry forms and even the Targa Florio scrutineering sticker. With its ultra-rare specification, rally-winning pedigree and remarkable preservation, this RS 2.7 Lightweight stands as one of the most significant customer 911s to emerge. RM Sotheby’s has offered the rare 911 as part of its most recent Sealed Drop, with results yet to be announced at the time of writing.
