The Long Walk promises to be a tense and emotionally challenging adaptation of Stephen King‘s early and unsettling novel, exploring themes of survival, camaraderie, and the brutal consequences of a totalitarian regime.

Set in a dystopian near-future America now a police state, The Long Walk is an annual, televised contest where 100 teenage boys must walk continuously along U.S. Route 1. The rules are simple and brutal: maintain a pace above 4 miles per hour. If a walker drops below this speed for 30 seconds, they receive a warning. Three warnings result in elimination – being shot dead by the soldiers monitoring the event. The winner is granted whatever they desire for the rest of their life. The story primarily follows 16-year-old Ray Garraty from Maine as he participates in this grueling and deadly competition, forming uneasy alliances and witnessing the physical and mental toll the Walk takes on the boys.

The Long Walk is directed by Francis Lawrence (“The Hunger Games” franchise) and stars Cooper Hoffman as Raymond Garraty and David Jonsson in a leading role, alongside a cast including Mark Hamill as the menacing Major who oversees the Walk, and Judy Greer. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on September 12, 2025.
