Umbro Better Release *That* Chainmail Football Jersey
Designed by Slam Jam for the British sportswear label, the knightly design appears in the center of Umbro’s SS25 campaign, but it’s still unclear if the fan-favorite piece will actually become shoppable this week.

When Slam Jam designer Giovanni Nordio shared an image of a chainmail Umbro jersey on Instagram over the summer, the statement-making football kit quickly became a mainstay on stylephiles’ Explore pages. The knightly take on the quintessential athletic top, finished with Umbro’s signature double diamond logo in the center of the chest, boasts a heavy metal composition that one could only compare to armour. Well, let’s hope the joust to get your hands on one actually happens.

The head-turning silhouette is part of Slam Jam’s ongoing collaboration with Umbro, in which the Italian label is restoring the English sportswear manufacturer’s fashionable flair through a series of “designed by Slam Jam for Umbro” collections. Fast forward to now, and the pair is teasing the release of their Spring/Summer 2025 collection, leading with a photo of the medieval soccer top.
The brand has not, however, confirmed when (or if) the viral silhouette will actually launch, and it appears to be missing from the collection’s initial product lineup. The design is certainly a bit more advanced than the label’s usual output (and would likely cost more to produce), but it’s just too good to pass on—and the label’s consumers are not shy about their wants for it.
“I’ve been waiting on this damn chainmail tee 🥶,” one commenter said. “Is that T-shirt actually dropping?” another questioned. “Need,” posted several others. Where there’s demand, let’s hope there’s supply.

Outside the chainmail football kit, the seasonal lineup is packed with designs referencing signature security getups, player uniforms, and fan attire that’ll still satisfy your football-ified fashion tastes. Thick all-black windbreakers and formal quarter-zip jackets nod to the football arena’s watchmen, while kaleidoscopic jackets, polos, jerseys, and hats are fitted for the sport’s devotees. Meanwhile, “Only Football” hoodies and “Hard Time” T-shirts round out the eclectic ready-to-wear lineup.
The first drop from Umbro’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection will launch on March 4 on Slam Jam and Umbro’s webstores, as well as in select retailers. The second drop from the line will arrive on March 18. At the time of writing, the fate of the chainmail jersey is still unknown, but in the meantime, take a look at the full lineup in the campaign, shot by Satoshi Fujiwara, above.
