Walter Van Beirendonck Drops Avant-Garde G-STAR Collaboration
Titled “Denim with Balls.”
Walter Van Beirendonck and G-STAR have come together for for a collaborative collection titled “Denim With Balls.” The collection is slated to be designed by the Belgian fashion designer himself for the Amsterdam founded denim brand.
The latest collaboration brings in the designer’s signature silhouettes, taking on Van Beirendonck’s stylistic focus on minimizing on sewing. Most of the fabrics are combined with glue and design tape to create avant-garde iterations of classic denim wear pieces. A selection of WVB-coded pieces are highlighted in the collaboration, including an oversized jacket designed with 3D knitting technology, a sweater featuring the phrase “Future Proof” as a nod to the designer’s work, as well as a cap featuring the upside-down human figure branding. In terms of the denim offerings, the collection includes a cropped jacket, overalls, box-cut shorts and straight leg jeans all of which feature co-branded elements embossed onto the pieces.

In a statement regarding the collaboration, Van Beirendonck said, “I tried my hand at making new clothes that were not bound by traditional methods. Why is it that clothes are still made using traditional methods even now, when it is possible to explore new methods that are different from what has been done before? The main themes of this project were innovation, research and challenging the stereotypes of clothing making. G-STAR gave me complete discretion, so I was able to create freely.”
