Prada FW25 Is All Grown Up
No more office cosplay, real corporate clothing is here.
Frizzy hair, boiled wool, and paper bag hemlines dominated Prada’s Fall/Winter 2025 womenswear runway earlier today. The collection was described as an interrogation of modern beauty. Miuccia asked how clothing can transform perceptions of beauty and how beauty can in turn cause us to reinvent clothing.
The runway took place in the same set as the FW25 menswear collection. The industrial metal structure and printed carpet were meant to evoke intense feelings of contrast. Previous ideas of youth were transformed into adulthood, reevaluating commonplace silhouettes in a new context.
The show opened with a parade of loosely hanging charcoal overcoats and dresses emphasized by the model’s bare face and frazzled hair. The last time Miuccia used balloon-static-induced hair was for Miu Miu’s playful FW23. This time, the style made a reappearance under more somber circumstances.
Transforming youthfulness into adulthood was key. Pleated mini skirts were paired with crinkled button downs and tapered by long overcoats and low-profile keds. Also in comparison to the past few seasons, barely there windswept summer slips expanded into oversized floral paper doll dresses while free-flowing ribbons became stiffer wool and leather scarves complementing their respective cardigans and jackets.
While it’s no secret that (faux) fur has been this year’s breakout star, Miuccia and Raf continued to expand on their faux fur ideas from the past few seasons, including FW25 menswear. Massive faux fur collars wrapped around overcoats worn as dresses, faux fur was laminated for an artificial sheen, and a blazer was deconstructed with contrasting patchworks of faux fur on the body and lapel.
If in the last few years, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons were designing for kids playing dress up, they’re certainly all grown up now.
