In 1982, Manchester-based fashion designer John Richmond decided to make the leap and launch his eponymous label, later moving to Milan to nurture his craft amongst like-minded craftsmen. Now, over 40 years later, the designer’s grand return brings with him a forward-thinking Fall/Winter 2025 collection.

Known for his distinct punk rock aesthetic, John Richmond’s new season collection, showcased at Tate Modern Tanks last weekend, confidently leaned into his signature ‘80s shapes and silhouettes. The frills, leathers, and sharp suiting that notably adorned Mick Jagger and George Michael were elevated for the British runway with enlarged flares and shoulders as well as decorative pins and embroidered lettering.

Against the Brutalist backdrop of the museum, the runway show became more than a fashion parade but a bold statement of rock ‘n’ roll with a sense of rebellion that had once inspired a young John Richmond in his seminal years. Celebrating the landmark moment, the designer hosted an event later in the day at the same space with tastemakers, artists, and fashion week-goers all in attendance.

As with the evening runway show, the event was curated in collaboration with close friend and esteemed photographer Jamie Morgan. Spread across the underbelly of the museum, his photographs and moving images of the collection were projected on central walls, flickering between moody model shots and affirmations like “positive anarchy” and “destroy the past” which aimed to engulf guests upon their arrival.

Throughout the night, a line-up of DJs including Tiffany Calver, Keyrah, and Icykof provided the soundscape of the event. Just like punk rock represented a new era of British music in the ‘80s, their blend of hip-hop, amapiano, and electronic tracks reflects the British music popular today. John Richmond himself also joined guests on the dancefloor, celebrating his homecoming until the early hours of the morning.

Take a look back at what went down in the recap video above. To find out more about John Richmond’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection, head to the brand’s website now.
