Little Simz Sets the Stage for 'Lotus' With New Track "Flood"
The album drops on May 9.
Little Simz is making a powerful return with her highly anticipated sixth album, Lotus. The British rapper, celebrated for her razor-sharp lyricism and fearless artistry, has also unveiled the album’s lead single, “Flood,” featuring Obongjayar and Moonchild Sanelly.
With Lotus, Simz pushes creative boundaries once again, using the album as a meditation on renewal and growth. The title symbolizes transformation, a theme deeply interwoven throughout the music and its overarching narrative.
“Flood” sets the tone for this bold new chapter, propelled by thunderous drums and Simz’s signature raw, husky delivery. Produced by Miles Clinton James, the track’s hypnotic groove is intensified by the haunting vocals of Obongjayar and the electrifying presence of Moonchild Sanelly. This collaboration builds on Simz and Obongjayar’s previous synergy, including their critically acclaimed track “Point and Kill” from Sometimes I Might Be Introvert.
Accompanying the single is a striking black-and-white music video, directed by Salomon Ligthelm. The cinematic visual unfolds like a fever dream, featuring enigmatic imagery of prayer leaders, mysterious figures and matadors, all set against a backdrop of relentless rain. The arresting aesthetic amplifies the song’s raw intensity, further cementing Simz’s ability to craft a fully immersive world through her music.
Beyond her own projects, Simz is set to curate the 30th edition of the Southbank Centre’s Meltdown Festival, a prestigious contemporary music event previously helmed by icons like David Bowie and Massive Attack. Taking place from June 12 – 22, the festival will showcase a boundary-pushing lineup, personally selected by Simz, reinforcing her impact as both an artist and a cultural visionary.
Lotus is set for release on May 9. Watch the music video for “Flood” above.
