Matt Damon Stars as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'

Universal Pictures has unveiled the first look at Matt Damon as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Odyssey. This marks Nolan’s first film since his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer and his third collaboration with Damon.
The star-studded cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron and others, though their specific roles remain undisclosed. Production reportedly began this month, with principal photography taking place across the Aeolian Islands in Sicily, a region deeply tied to Odysseus’ mythological journey.
The film is expected to capture the grandeur of Odysseus’ legendary voyage, depicting his encounters with mythical creatures, divine interventions and the perilous trials that stand between him and his long-awaited return to Ithaca. With his signature blend of cerebral storytelling and large-scale spectacle, Nolan aims to reimagine one of history’s most influential literary works for contemporary audiences.
The Odyssey is set to premiere in theaters on July 17, 2026.
