French contemporary artist Mathias Kiss has presented an exclusive collection for Christofle, the historical French Maison known for its exquisite silverware and tableware. Entitled “Perspectives,” the collection comprises six pieces that can be freely combined or used as standalone.

Drawing from a vocabulary of classical forms, Kiss dissected and recomposed elements of moldings to create sculptural candleholders, a vase, and candelabras in a surreal yet rigorously structured aesthetic. True to his mastery of decorative motifs, Kiss envisions a new functionality for ornamentation, transforming wall moldings into sculptural candleholders and candelabras with alternating projections and recesses.

Collaborating with Mathias Kiss allowed Christofle to explore new materials and manufacturing processes. The technical and aesthetic singularity of the “Perspectives”
collection challenged the traditional mediums of the Parisian silversmith, prompting the research and development team to turn to aluminum for its lightweight and high mechanical strength. The new choice of material proved ideal for the delicate profiles of the candleholders and candelabras, complete with Christofle’s signature, brilliant finish that is oxidation and heat-resistant.

The faceted glass vase is a noteworthy highlight of the collection. Composed of 12 translucent facets of varying sizes and thicknesses, the vase is assembled using UV-cured adhesive. This is then manually polished before undergoing a fine abrasion process to attain a soft, luminous glaze. The finished product also fits into a removable aluminum base to easily change the water.

Pieces from Mathias Kiss’ “Perspectives” Collection range from $275 – $9,500 USD and are available to shop through Christofle.
