‘Between the Lightness and the Darkness’: Slash Objects Showroom Debut Exhibition
Spotlighting four new pieces that explore the tension between the natural and the constructed.
Summary
- Slash Objects opens its first permanent SoHo showroom with Between the Lightness and the Darkness
- Exhibition debuts four new works: Coexist Credenza, Bench, Mirror and Adri Chair in contrasting materials like aluminum, steel and green onyx
Slash Objects, the award-winning design studio founded by architect Arielle Assouline-Lichten, has announced the opening of its first permanent New York space in SoHo with the debut exhibition, Between the Lightness and the Darkness. Located in an authentic downtown loft at 224 Centre Street, the showroom is intended to be both a home for the studio’s collectible work and an evolving creative platform where design, art and fashion converge. Assouline-Lichten aims for the space to channel the raw energy of old New York, recalling the industrial lofts where artists once merged metal and light into ideas, describing it as a place to collide disciplines and make “something unexpected”.
The new pieces expand on Slash Objects’ Coexist collection, which investigates how contrasting materials can meet in equilibrium. Highlights include the Coexist Credenza in aluminum and green onyx, fabricated in collaboration with Italian heritage workshop Mingardo, whose lineage traces back to modernist architect Carlo Scarpa. The Coexist Bench in stainless steel and Coexist Mirror in green onyx continue this dialogue between strength and fragility, precision and emotion. Each work is defined by geometric clarity and material experimentation, creating sculptural forms that balance industrial rigor with organic resonance.
Complementing these works is the Adri Chair in stainless steel, part of the Adri series that reinterprets seating through architectural structure and sensual tactility. Together, the new designs embody Slash Objects’ ongoing inquiry into weight, balance, and the human relationship to space. Produced across the United States, Italy and Portugal, the collection underscores the studio’s commitment to craftsmanship and collaboration with skilled artisans. By juxtaposing raw loft architecture with refined furniture, the showroom becomes a platform for creative collision — an evolving hub where design, art, and fashion converge in downtown New York.
The Between the Lightness and the Darkness exhibition is on view until December 19, 2025.
