Kelly Wearstler Launches Curatorial Platform for Multidisciplinary Creatives

LA-based interior designer Kelly Wearstler has launched her own curatorial platform named “Side Hustle”, which is dedicated to bringing together those working across multiple disciplines.
Wearstler, having made her name as a designer in her own right, began *formally* platforming others back in 2022, when she launched a collaborative collection with eight individual designers.
Now, with Side Hustle, she’s taking her interest in the work of others to the next level, and will curate exhibitions that champion creatives working across anything from furniture to video, and jewelry to automotive design.
“My studio practice has long integrated work from across such a wide range of creative disciplines,” Wearstler said. “It is this exploration that led to the birth of Side Hustle – a space for ideas to unfold beyond the logic of client or commission, working to present works that contribute to the ongoing evolution of design as a cultural practice.”
The first show, named “Again, Differently,” took place at a Beverly Hills residence. Here, Wearstler showed the work of Dozie Kanu, Joana Schneider, Mariko Makino, Nynke Koster, Sam Klemick, Sonia Gomes, Leonor Antunes, Karl Holmqvist, Kenny Beats, and Madeline Hollander.
Each exhibiting designer and artist was tasked with transforming a familiar material into an unexpected form. Timber takes on the aesthetic of fabric, and squishy rubber looks solid and monolithic.
In addition to the physical show, each exhibition will live digitally on SideHustleGallery.com. In the future, Wearstler plans to expand the platform to other cities and “unexpected contexts”.
