Timex is reissuing its pioneering SSQ model, the brand’s first-ever LCD digital watch that was originally launched in 1975. Developed in response to the surging demand for digital timepieces during the rise of quartz and digital watches in the 1970s, the SSQ embodies Timex’s revolutionary heritage with its innovative and futuristic design.
The SSQ Digital Reissue faithfully reproduces the original’s minimalist and streamlined aesthetic from 50 years ago. It features a stainless steel watch case with beautiful brushed and polished finishes, complemented by a blue acrylic dial mask that prominently displays the SSQ model name and Timex branding. Like its predecessor, the reissue has an always-on LCD display, a simple date function, and a 60-second counter. The traditional crown is replaced by two pusher buttons on the side of the bezel.
Coming with a matching stainless steel bracelet, the SSQ Digital Reissue has a lug width of 19 mm, a case thickness of 13 mm, and a case diameter of 38mm.
This faithful recreation of the 1970s timepiece, the Timex SSQ Digital Reissue, will be released on Timex’s Japan site on October 17 at a price of ¥28,600 JPY (approximately $190 USD). A wider release is planned to follow the Japan launch, with the date yet to be announced.
