The Brazilian rap duo Tasha & Tracie have released their debut studio album, Serena & Venus. This 21-track project is framed as a sonic chronicle, integrating the twins’ personal history and cultural references with a powerful, fictionalized narrative. This work reinforces the duo’s position as significant voices in Brazilian urban culture, expertly weaving together themes of pain, love, delusion, strength, and ultimate redemption.

The creative process for the album was characterized by a commitment to independence, with Tasha & Tracie recording and co-producing the work in their own studio alongside beatmakers such as Pizzol, Caio Passos, and Fahel. The visual aesthetic of Serena & Venus is explicitly drawn from their past, specifically from handwritten letters their mother sent from prison.

For Hypebeast, Tracie noted that the album has a “visual narrative, very much based on the letters,” with the cover art serving as a direct, powerful echo of these blue-pen-and-drawing missives.

“We had a time when we were so sad about those memories… that we tore up all the letters,” Tasha stated, underscoring the raw, affecting intimacy of the project’s foundation.
The execution of Serena & Venus highlights the duo’s focused artistic vision. Their process involves navigating intense emotions, moving between confidence, joy, and sadness, and has required a precise approach to editing their creative output.

For Tracie, “there are things we think are precious for us to understand as a whole… and no, sometimes we can be succinct.” This disciplined approach has resulted in a work that is both expansive and focused.

By confronting painful memories and transforming them into a comprehensive sonic document, Tasha & Tracie have delivered an album that serves not only as a statement of artistic maturity but also as a powerful exploration of strength and self-determination. “We are very intense, in the sense that we live a lot between melancholy and joy, confidence and melancholy.”, Tasha says.
